Our role

Website design

Project website

juliefast.com

Julie A. Fast's website on desktop and mobile: the homepage header with her photo, colourful dial logo, three book covers and the main menu above the introduction to her bipolar disorder management plan and a welcome video, beside the Person With Bipolar page on a phone.
Julie's photo, colourful logo and books sit at the top of every page, and each audience has its own illustrated section, like the Person With Bipolar page shown on a phone.

A Site That Reflects Julie

Julie A. Fast has spent decades writing and speaking about bipolar disorder and related mental health conditions. She’s the bestselling author of Take Charge of Bipolar Disorder, Loving Someone with Bipolar Disorder and Getting It Done When You’re Depressed. She’s also written for Psychology Today and bp Magazine, and was the original consultant for Claire Danes’s character on Homeland.

Julie had a clear vision for her website. She wanted it to feel colourful and a little whimsical, while still being respectful of a serious subject. Working with Julie, her project manager and graphic designer, we brought her ideas, colours and graphics together into a website that felt like her.

Julie's homepage with the Meet Julie A. Fast section, a welcome video framed by a purple watercolour wash and a photo of Julie in a flower crown, above the Julie's Books section, beside her Treatment and Management Protocol list of ten colour-coded steps.
Watercolour frames, script headings and the colours from Julie’s logo carry through the homepage, from Meet Julie A. Fast to her books and treatment protocol.

Different Visitors, Different Starting Points

What makes this site especially interesting is the Audiences menu. People living with bipolar disorder can start with information intended for them, while family members, caregivers, partners and coparents have their own sections. There are also paths for healthcare professionals, researchers and people looking to interview Julie.

The homepage's Audience Resources cards for Person With Bipolar, Family Members and Caregivers, Partners and Coparents, Healthcare Professionals, Researchers and Media Inquiries and Interviews, each in its own colour with watercolour illustrations, beside the Person With Bipolar page as a tall strip and a close-up of the Audiences menu open.
The Audiences menu and a set of illustrated cards on the homepage point each type of visitor to a starting point of their own.

Beyond those audience pages, the website brings together her books, articles, interviews, research and workshop information. It gives visitors a way to explore her work based on what brought them there, whether they’re looking for resources for themselves or trying to better understand what someone they love is experiencing.

Four parts of Julie's website: her three books, Take Charge of Bipolar Disorder, Loving Someone with Bipolar Disorder and Getting It Done When You're Depressed; the Bipolar Disorder Resources articles grouped by topic; the Researchers page welcome with Julie's photo; and the Media Inquiries and Interviews page.
Her books, articles grouped by topic, research and media information each have a clear place on the site.

From the client

I hope that anyone looking for a well designed, functional and striking website will work with Matt Dragos. He is patient, professional and very, very creative. I designed my website in my head. He took my ideas, colors and graphics and then created one of the most original websites I have ever seen. I knew exactly what I wanted, but wasn’t able to create it myself. He made my website dream a reality.

It took a team to create this website. He worked seamlessly with the project manger and graphic designer. He is truly a team oriented professional.

My topic (brain health) is intense. I wanted a page that was colorful, slightly whimsical and at the same time respectful of the topic. Matt delivered SO much more than expected. I hope you will visit his work at JulieFast.com to see phase one of our website project. This website is a work in progress. His design allows me to add new sections with ease. I can’t recommend Matt highly enough. He is kind and creative.
